Melvin "Sawdust" Williamson, 81, of Union Mills, Indiana, died at 2:20 p.m. on Friday, June 16, 2006 at LaPorte Hospital.
A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 21, at Cutler Funeral Home with Rev. John Vincent officiating. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 2:00 p.m. until the time of the funeral. Burial will be on Wednesday at 5:00 p.m. in Union Mills Cemetery. Full military rites will be conducted.
Melvin was born October 3, 1924, in LaPorte to the late Lee Ray & Gertrude (Gorski) Williamson. He married Genevieve Smith who preceded him in death. He then married Wanda Hall, who also preceded him in death.
Survivors include sons Donald Ray (Janice) Williamson of Fish Lake, Indiana, Melvin Ray Williamson, Jr. of Union Mills and Steven Curtis (Shanda) Williamson of Monrovia, CA; grandchildren Glenn Arthur Baima, Renee Collins, Adrienne Binversie, Brian Adams and Chad, Chaylon, Joshua, Ryan, Seth and Shane Williamson; 6 great-grandchildren; and brother Donald Lee (Beverly) Williamson of LaPorte.
Sons Michael Adams and Larry Phillips and brothers Arthur and Richard Williamson preceded him in death.
Melvin was a self-employed carpenter. He was a US Army veteran of WW II and he was a member of the Zook Farrington American Legion Post of Kingsford Heights.
