Michael Shorty D. Surowiec, 44, LaPorte, formerly of Elkhart, died at 10:50 p.m. Tuesday (Feb. 10, 2004) after a lengthy illness at LaPorte Hospital.
There will be no public service. Interment will be at Pine Lake Cemetery, LaPorte, at a later time.
Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Cutler Funeral Home, LaPorte, with cremation to follow.
He was born Nov. 4, 1959, in South Bend to Robert and Phyllis (Duncan) Surowiec, who survive in Elkhart.
Survivors also include one brother, Rodney (Ovet) Surowiec, LaPorte; two sisters, Debra (James) Pratt, Elkhart, and Kathy Mize, Mishawaka; and one grandmother, Marie Surowiec, LaPorte.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents Ward and Sybil Duncan; grandfather Stanley Surowiec; and one uncle, Larry Duncan.
Mr. Surowiec was a driver for Big Jim Trucking and other trucking companies. He was an avid NASCAR fan, loved fishing and spending time with family and friends.
Memorials may be made to Our Lady of Holy Cross in San Pierre, Ind., or to the Leukemia/Lymphoma Foundation.
