Michael P. Volk, age 58, of Las Vegas, Nevada, formerly of LaPorte died suddenly Tuesday evening, August 25, 2009.
Michael, commonly known as Mike to family and friends, was born to Edward G. Volk and Ellen Conboy Volk on October 26, 1950 in LaPorte, Indiana.
He was a graduate of South Central High School. He served 12 years as an officer with the LaPorte County Sheriff's Department, and then founded Michiana Security, a business which he owned at the time of his death. Mike is survived by his mother and three siblings, Edward Volk, of LaPorte, Barbara Leek of Indianapolis, and Mary Horst of Hanna. His father preceded Mike in death.
In 1972, Mike married Diane Light, who preceded him in death in 1988. Jason Volk, a son, survives and manages the family business. Michelle Burger, a daughter, also survives. Randy Light, a son, preceded Mike in death.
On October 25, 2003, Mike married Elizabeth Childers, who survives. Mike has three living step-children: James Woods, Lisa Clifton, and Theresa Schwanke. Debra Stowell, whom he loved like a daughter, also survives.
A memorial service will be held at 2PM on Monday, August 31, 2009. Visitation will be from 12-2pm immediately preceding the service. Burial will follow at Pine Lake Cemetery.
