Mrs. Frances Struble Barnes, 91, LaPorte, died at 8:20 p.m. Friday (Sept. 5, 2003) at LaPorte Hospital.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Cutler Funeral Home, with the Rev. Doug Hadley officiating. Burial will be in DeMotte Cemetery, DeMotte, Ind.
Visitation is from 10 a.m. until the service Wednesday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Barnes was born June 28, 1912, in DeMotte, to Henry and Edna (Bowman) Hockelberg. In 1933, she married Earl Struble, who preceded her. On Oct. 2, 1958, in Gary, Ind., she married Jack Barnes, who also preceded her.
She is survived by one daughter, Betty (Paul) Hernandez, Centerville, Ohio; one son, L. Bryant Barnes, Mahomet, Ill.; two grandsons, Steven and Robert Hernandez; and three great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by one sister, Esther Smith, and one half-brother, Frank Frame.
Mrs. Barnes was a secretary and bookkeeper for U.S. Steel during World War II and then worked for the Gary/Hobart Water Company for many years. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, the Martha Circle of the church, the Swanson Activity Center for Older Adults and its quilting group and also the LaPorte Hospital Auxiliary.
