Norma L. Westphal, 74 years old of LaPorte, IN., formerly of Michigan City, IN., died Thursday, August 20, 2009 in La Porte Hospital.
She was born July 3, 1935 in Grand Rapids, MI., Daughter of Perry J. and Mildred A. (Pully) Welch.
She retired from the Shipping Department at Weil-McLain after 19 years. She was a lifetime member of the DAV Auxiliary, Chapter 23 of Michigan City.
Surviving are sisters, Juanita Chambers of LaPorte, IN., Bonnie Beth (Jim) Howe of Grand Rapids, MI., children, Carol (Dennis Sr. (Rip)) Barger of LaPorte, Dwayne (Pat) Umphrey of LaPorte, Bret (Darlene) Chambers of Nashville, TN., Lucky (Stacy) Westphal of Michigan City, IN., Shaun (Tony) Westphal of Michigan City, grandchildren, Dennis (Jenny) Barger, Jr. of Michigan City, Mike (Amy) Barger of Michigan City, Dusty Umphrey of LaPorte, Joelle (D.J.) Umphrey of Michigan City, Amanda (Mike) Dooley of Michigan City, Katie (Robby) Westphal of Elkhart, IN., Brandy Westphal of Michigan City, Jolene (Anthony) Hugley of Michigan City and several other grandchildren, great grandchildren, Austin Barger of LaPorte, Dennis Barger III, Owen Barger of Michigan City, Zoey Irk of Elkhart, Savanna Hugley of Michigan City, Nathan O'Dell of Michigan City, Alex Cado, Kyle Cado both of Michigan City, Joshua Hugley and Calvin Hugley of Michigan City, several other great grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
She was preceded in death by her mother and step father, Mildred A. and Cecil L. Jones of Michigan City, IN., father and step-mother, Perry J. and Beth Welch of Grand Rapids, MI., brother, Perry J. Welch, Jr. of Michigan City, one grandson, and one nephew, Ronald Chambers of Michigan City, IN.
Friends will be received Monday, August 24, 2009 from 3-8 P.M. and on Tuesday from 10 A.M. until the time of the service at the Cutler Funeral Home, LaPorte, IN.
Services will be held at Cutler Funeral Home, Tuesday, August 25, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Terry McKinney officiating. Interment will follow in the Swan Lake Memorial Gardens.
