Norman Ernest Cook

Norman Ernest Cook, 80, Hamlet, died Friday (Aug. 22, 2003) at LaPorte Hospital following a motor vehicle accident.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Cutler Funeral Home, LaPorte, with the Rev. David Sickelka officiating. Burial will be in Patton Cemetery.

Visitation is from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 9 a.m. until the service Monday at the funeral home.

Mr. Cook was born Sept. 9, 1922, in LaPorte, to Ernest and Nellie (Schoff) Cook. On Sept. 27, 1947, in LaPorte, he married Agnes Schoof. She survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Norma (Wendell) Cooper and Donna (Richard) Piechnik, both of LaPorte; a son, Dale Cook, Hamlet; five grandchildren; Jodie Nachtrab, Robyn McShane, Erin Piechnik, Richard Piechnik II and Andrew Piechnik; a great-granddaughter, Madyson McShane; and a brother, Arthur Cook, LaPorte.

A sister preceded him in death.

Mr. Cook had worked as a brick mason with most of the construction companies in the area, retiring in 1985. He was a 50-year member of the International Union of Bricklayers & Allied Craftworkers and was a World War II Army veteran.
