Norman O. Green

Norman Oliver Green, 76, of Michigan City, Indiana, died at 5:59 p.m. on Tuesday, January 25, 2005. He died at the St. Anthony Memorial Health Center in Michigan City.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 29, at the Cutler Funeral Home in LaPorte. Visitation will be held on Friday from 4:00-8:00 p.m. and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services. The Past Exalted Rulers of Elks Lodge #432 will hold a memorial service at 7:00 p.m. on Friday night at the funeral home. Burial will be in Angelcrest Cemetery in Valparaiso, IN.

Norman was born September 17, 1928 in Gary, IN to Charles & Hilda (Hess) Green. On April 4, 1956, in Ft. Lauderdale, FL, he married Kathryn Doreen McNeilly, who survives.

Also surviving are sons Charles B. (Kris) Green of LaPorte, IN and A. Scott Green of New Lenox, IL; grandchildren Kyle, Alexis, Drew, Katie and Zachary Green and Jaymi Segvich; great-grandson Justyn Segvich; sister-in-law Alyce Knouse of Michigan City; 2 nephews; 2 great nieces; and 2 great nephews.

His parents preceded him in death.

Norman had retired as Senior Field Auditor for the State of Indiana Department of Revenue.

He was a 1948 graduate of Emerson High School in Gary, IN and had attended the Chicago Conservatory of Music, Purdue and Indiana University Schools of Business. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, serving 2 years in Germany. He was a member of the Official Die-Hard Cub Fans since 1939. He was a life member of the Michigan City Federation of Musicians Local #578, the Michigan City Exchange Club, and in 1970 was the Past-Exalted Ruler of Michigan City Elks B.P.O. E. #432. In 1977, he was a past District Deputy for the Elks in north west Indiana.

During the 1950's and early 60's, Norm was the pianist/organist for the Bull Pen Lounge of the Hotel Spaulding in downtown Michigan City. Also during those early years, Norman's keyboard talent made him a popular entertainer from northwest Indiana to the nightclubs of the Atlantic coast of Florida.

He loved Indiana University basketball. He also loved his family and cherished his wife Doreen.
