Opal Fay Goad Stone, 96, passed away at 12:35 P.M. Friday, October 27, 2006 at La Porte Hospital. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, November 1, 2006 at the Cutler Funeral Home. Rev. Louis Schumm will officiate with burial at Patton Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-7 P.M. Tuesday and Wednesday 10-11 A.M. at the Cutler Funeral Home.
Opal Fay was born April 24, 1910 in Brook, Indiana to John Franklin and Flora Alta (Ricker) Dewees. On December 24, 1928, in Brook, IN she married Louis W. Goad, who preceded her in death on October 26, 1948. Then on March 31, 1956, in South Bend, IN, she married Jacob Stone, who proceded her in death on May 9, 1989.
Survivors include her son, Marvin L. (Jane) Goad of La Porte; Granddaughters, Cynthia (Robert) Cutler and Kathleen (James) Abbott; 2 Step-Children; 4 Great-Grandsons, Thaddeus (Laura) Cutler, Layton (Joanna) Cutler, Andrew and Matthew Abbott.
Opal Fay was proceded in death by her Parents and a Brother, Harold Dewees.
Opal Fay worked most of her life as a bookkeeper in auto dealerships in La Porte, South Bend and Indianapolis. Opal Fay graduated from Brook High School in 1928 and she attended South Bend Business College. She was a member of the La Porte Presbyterian Church and had been past president of the International Travel Study Clubs, Inc., Indianapolis. She also belonged to the La Porte Business Girls and the La Porte Christian Women's Club.
