Paul Mathes, 86, of LaPorte, Indiana, died at 11:30 p.m. on Satruday, June 17, 2006 at Countryside Place Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 20, at Cutler Funeral Home with Rev. Larry Owen officiating. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be in Pine Lake Cemetery.
Paul was born April 24, 1920, in Hammond, Indiana, to the late William & Daisy (Norris) Mathes. In 1939, he married Norma Louise Odell who preceded him in death in 1983. Then in 1985, he married Fay Jones, who preceded him in death in 2006.
Survivors include daughter Judy F. Gentry of LaPorte; son Paul (Diana) Mathes Jr. of Hammond, IN; stepdaughter Diane Hudgins of LaPorte; stepson David L. Jones of LaPorte; grandchildren Sherry Lynn Smith, Errol Adams Gentry and Jennifer Renee Rhoda; 8 great-
A grandson, Edward Bryan Gentry preceded him in death.
Paul had worked as a machinist for the Inland Steel Corporation.
He was a US Army veteran of WW II, where he received the Purple Heart and ETO Ribbon with service star. He was a member of DAV and a former member of the Rainbow Rivers Club & Rainbow Golf Club in Florida. He loved sailing and was a former member of the Gary Boat Club. He also attended Bethel Chapel.
