Peter Scotty Taylor, Jr., 89, of LaPorte, Indiana, died a t 8:20 a.m. on Thursday, October 28, 2004 at Hamilton Grove Communities in New Carlisle, Indiana.
A masonic memorial service will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 31, 2004 at the Cutler Funeral Home with the Kingsbury Masonic Lodge officiating. Cremation will take place following the service.
Scotty was born March 2, 1915, in Colburn, Scotland to Peter and Janet (Walker) Taylor. On December 25, 1936, in LaPorte, Indiana, he married Edith ?Peggy? Murray, who survives.
Survivors also include daughters Linda (DeWayne ?Moose?) Francis and Nancy (Robert) Hunt, both of LaPorte; son Douglas (Crystal) Taylor of Beverly Shores, IN; grandchildren, Lorri & Scott Francis, Peggy Irvin, Geoffrey Griffith, Sunny Orelana and Jamie Taylor; 8 grandchildren; and 1 niece.
He was preceded in death by 11 siblings.
Scotty, a member of the UAW, retired as a mechanic from Allis Chalmers after working there for 40 years. He was a graduate of Hearst High School in Chicago, a past master of Excelsior Lodge #41 F. & AM, past master and secretary of Kingsbury Masonic Lodge #222, an assistant director of the 26th degree Scottish Rite of South Bend and was a very active volunteer in the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, being Scoutmaster of the 1st Air Squadron in LaPorte. He was past president of Friends of the Library, a past board member of the R.S.V.P, a past board member of the LaPorte Mental Health Association and a member of the Swanson Activity Center. He was lead singer, guitar and harmonica player for many years in Scotty?s Country Band.
