Phillip Dean Caddy, 84, passed away Thursday, September15, 2016. He was born July 8, 1932, in LaPorte, Indiana, to Carl Clinton Caddy and Marguerite Olin (Lindborg) Caddy.
Phill was baptized and confirmed at Bethany Lutheran (Augustana) Church. He earned a B.S. in Business from Indiana University in 1954.
He served in the Army from 1954 to 1956. He then worked for Allis Chalmers in LaPorte before returning to Indiana University where he earned a B.M. in Organ having studied with Dr. George Y. Wilson. Phill earned the Master of Music in Organ at the University of Oklahoma studying with Mildred Andrews.
Phill served at St. Andrew Episcopal Church in Amarillo, Texas, as organist-choir master from 1964 to 1966. In October 1966, he moved to Lake Charles, LA to serve as organist-director of music. He retired in July 1997.
He was Dean of the American Guild of Organists, Lake Charles Chapter; member of the Lake Charles Piano Teacher Association; treasurer of Louisiana Music Teachers Association from 1969 to 1999; member of the Houston Chapter of AGO; member of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia music fraternity; and worked with the board of ACTS for a time.
Phill also served as part-time organist at various churches in the Lake Charles area including St. Andrew Presbyterian Church and Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Sulphur, LA.
He joined First Presbyterian Church of Lake Charles in June 1997.
Phill was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Harley Carl Caddy.
He is survived by several cousins and a host of friends.
A Celebration of Life Memorial service for Phill Caddy will be held at Bethany Lutheran Church on Friday, September 30, 2016, at 11 a.m. Friends may visit with family from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will follow at Pine Lake Cemetery with full military honors. Arrangements have been entrusted to Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center.
