Ray A. Ambrose, 88 years old of La Porte, IN, died Saturday, May 2, 2009, at La Porte Hospital.
He was born Tuesday, March 1, 1921 in Chicago, IL. He was the son of the late William Ambrose, and the late Mary Ann (Deto) Ambrose.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Betty Louise (Furness) Ambrose, his parents, one brother, Art Ambrose, and one sister, Eleanor Sujka.
Surviving are daughter and son-in-law, Lynn (Michael) Przybylinski, of La Porte, IN Granddaughters, Laurie (Andrew) Schible of Chicago, IL, Terri Przybylinski of La Porte, IN, Great-granddaughter, Taylor Shoffner, Great-grandson Gavin Schible, Sisters Bernardine Johnson of Chesterton, IN, and Lorraine Chesmar of Chicago, IL.
Ray married Betty Furness in 1968 in New Buffalo, MI.
Ray and his wife Betty owned Bumblebee Liquors in Beverly Shores for many years. He previously owned a construction company in Chicago and was also a past president of the Chicago Home Builders Association. He served as a Lieutenant Commander for the Coast Guard in the Pacific during WWII.
Rays hobbies included gardening, horseback riding, and enjoyed being a private pilot. His sense of humor will be greatly missed.
According to his wishes, there will be no visitation, cremation has taken place. Cutler Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. A graveside service will be held at Furnessville Cemetery on Saturday, May 16, 2009 at 11 A.M.
