Raymond Willard "Papa Smurf" Helterbrand, Jr., 74 years old of LaPorte, IN, passed away on Tuesday, October 23, 2012 at his home.
He was born May 10, 1938 in LaPorte, IN, son of the late Raymond Willard and Nellie (Stone) Helterbrand, Sr.
Raymond was an eagle scout and served his country honorably in the United States Navy. He was a member of ABATE of Indiana, The American Bikers Aim Towards Education and the Moose.
He is survived by his son, Raymond Scott Helterbrand, of LaPorte; daughter, Rae Lynn (Dennis) Hooley of Holland, MI; sister, Joan Calahan of LaPorte; and granddaughter, Hope Marie Doucet.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Dorothy Watson Jenkins and brothers, Charles and Ronald Helterbrand.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, October 27, 2012 at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center. A time of visitation will take place from 5-8 PM on Friday October 26, 2012 and from 10-11 AM prior to the service at the funeral home.
Interment will follow in the Patton Cemetery where full military honors will be conducted.
