Richard C. Bachmann, 78, died at 8:30 p.m., Thursday February 12, 2004 at LaPorte Hospital.
A private family service was held at Cutler Funeral Home with Rev. Laura Altman officiating. There was no visitation. Burial was in Carmel Cemetery, LaPorte, with full military rites conducted.
He was born April 18, 1925, in LaPorte, IN to Albert W. & Margaret L. (Peterson) Bachmann. On Sept, 19, 1964, in LaPorte, he married Sandra A. Koehler, who survives.
Survivors also include 3 daughters, Andrea (Tony) Forsthoefel, Lansing, MI, Carla S. (Jim Vepley) Bachmann, Waukegan, IL, and Brenda Bachman, San Antonio, TX; a son, Bryan R. (Mindy) Bachmann, Aurora, IL; 4 grandchildren, Brianna, Alyssa, Lewis & Vincent,; 2 sisters, Ruth H. Stassel, LaPorte and Loraine H. Alban, Memphis, TN; and 3 brothers, Albert E. Bachmann, FL, and Robert A. & William C. Bachmann, both of LaPorte.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He was a former vice-president of sales at Marion Malleable. He was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church and the American Legion. He was also a U.S. Navy veteran of WW II. He loved to play golf and was one of the founders of the Martini Open Golf Tournament. He was in the first class of the LaPorte Slicer Football Hall of Fame. He was also the first to be awarded the MVP for the Northern Indiana Football Conference by the South Bend Tribune in 1942.
