Richard G. (Dick) Boyd, 89 years old of Union Mills, IN, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, January 1, 2012 at Golden Living Center Countryside Place in LaPorte.
He was born on May 1, 1922 in Elwood, IN., Son of the late John O. and Erma E. (Horn) Boyd.
Dick was married on April 10, 1943 to Frances E. (Betty) Hershey who survives.
He retired from Mayor Tool & Dye in LaPorte in 1988. Dick worked as a farmer for many years prior. He was a WWII Veteran where he served in the Army Air Corp from 1942-1945. He lived in the area for many years. living in Florida from 1993 - 2005.
He was a member of Agape Christian Church, LaPorte. In earlier years he was a member of Wanatah Christian Church where he served as an Elder and youth leader. He enjoyed playing horseshoes, taking pictures, camping, traveling and being with his family. He and his wife cared for foster children for many years. After retiring they babysat which is a tribute of his love of children. Dick enjoyed life and loved his Lord and Savior. He was a witness of his love for the Lord up until the end of his life.
He was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He is survived by his wife Betty of 68 years and six children: Karron (Ron) Peterson of Union Mills, John (Linda) Boyd of Westville, Ric (Dana) Boyd of Union Mills, David (Lois) Boyd of Oklahoma City, OK, Melinda (Howard) Barkey of Mustang, OK, and Cory Boyd of Indianapolis, IN; 15 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother: John Edwin.
There will be a Celebration of Life Service at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, January 5, 2012 at Agape Christian Church with Dr. Rodney Nielson officiating.
A time of visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 4, 2012 from 3:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Cutler Funeral Home & Cremation Service in LaPorte with Full Military Honors and also on Thursday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service at the church.
Burial will take place at a later time in Cook Cemetery in Tipton County.
