Richard "Dick" Caddy, 67, of LaPorte, Indiana, died at 6:50 a.m. EST, Sunday, August 27, 2006 at the Hospice House of South Bend, Indiana.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 30, at the LaPorte First United Methodist Church. Visitation will be held from 3:00-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday at Cutler Funeral Home and at the church on Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery.
Dick was born August 27, 1939, in LaPorte, to Glenn L. and Helen M. (Cornwell) Caddy. On May 8, 1960, in LaPorte, he married Jean E. Lempke, who survives.
Also surviving are sons Donald R. (Anna) Caddy of Lafayette, IN and Raymond V. (Jane) Caddy of Calgary, Alberta, Canada; daughter Diane H. Michael of Mansfield, OH; grandchildren Robert V., David C., Stephen R. and Julia J. Caddy and Matthew J., Collin J., and Evan J. Michael; and brothers Robert Caddy of Rehoboth, MA and Thomas Caddy of Flower Mound, TX.
His parents, stepmother, Olga Caddy, and a sister, Barbara Letts, preceded him in death.
Dick was the second-generation owner of Caddy's Garage, which his father started. Dick worked at the garage from 1972-1998.
He was a 1958 LaPorte High School graduate. He was a member of the LaPorte First United Methodist Church where he served as an usher. He was involved for 20 years in scouting with Cub Scout Pack #390 and he was Scout Master for 10 years with Boy Scout Pack #39. He was also involved with the Whirling Promenades for 3 years and the Star Righters where he served as treasurer for 10 years. He was also a crossing guard by Lincoln School. He enjoyed family camping and woodworking.
