Richard David Carriveau Sr., age 87, of La Porte, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2014 at The Arbors at Michigan City.
Richard was born in Gary, Indiana, on Sept. 29, 1927 to Richard David and Dora (Charbonneau) Carriveau.
On Aug. 20, 1948, he married Margueritte Burris in Gary, Indiana who survives.
Also surviving are his beloved children, Marcie Shaul of Indianapolis, Indiana, Gail (Joe) Prather of Jeffersonville, Indiana, Debbie Carriveau, and Pam Morrow of New Castle, Indiana; a daughter-in-law, Dawn Carriveau, twelve grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Richard "Rick" Carriveau, Jr.; one brother, Maurice Carriveau; two sisters, Phyllis Eaton and Lorraine Carriveau; and a son-in-law, Fred Morrow.
Richard served his country honorably in the United States Navy and was a farmer for over 50 years. He formerly served as an Elder at Countryside Christian Church where he was part of the Building Task Force. He was a fan of Stock Car Racing and the Chicago Bulls.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 30, 2014 at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center with Pastor Rick Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Pinhook Cemetery in La Porte.
A time of visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 29, 2014 at the funeral home and from noon until the time of service on Sunday.
