Richard Johnson, 78, of South Bend, Indiana and formerly of LaPorte, died at 4:10 p.m. on Thursday, December 29, 2005 at St. Joseph Medical Center, South Bend.
A funeral service will be held at noon on Wednesday, January 4, 2006 at the New Jerusalem Church of God in Christ in Kingsford Heights with Pastor Beverly Bush officiating. Visitation will be at the church on Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be in Patton Cemetery.
Richard was born June 14, 1927 in Wilmar, Arkansas. On September 14, 1947, in LaPorte, he married Mary F. Penn, who preceded him in death on April 30, 1987.
Survivors include daughters Linda Johnson and Rita (Bernoice) Foster, both of South Bend; sons James Johnson of LaPorte and Richard Johnson, Jr. of Indiana; 9 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and sister Ruby Roshell of Milwaukee, WI.
Richard had retired from Teledyne Manufacturing after 45 years. He was a member of New Jerusalem Church of God in Christ.
