Richard Dean Kratz, 86, of Rolling Prairie passed away on July 15, 2014, at his home.
He was born in New Carlisle, Indiana, on July 10, 1928, to Fredrick and Katherine Marie (Zugel) Kratz.
He was married on April 23, 1953, in La Porte to Phyllis J. (Wellinski) Kratz, who preceded him in death on May 9, 2014.
Surviving are his children Kristine Marie Bodie and Richard F. Kratz, both of La Porte; two sisters Katherine Blasko of South Bend, Indiana, and Margretie Williams of Mishawaka, Indiana; and one brother Kenneth Kratz of Hudson Lake, Indiana.
Richard was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving his country honorably from 1948 to 1952. Richard was a member of the American Legion Post 297 serving as post commander from 1957-1958.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, July 19, 2014, at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center. A time of visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until the time of the service on Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will take place following the service in New Carlisle Cemetery with Full Military Honors.
