Richard Wesley Paul, 82, of Calumet City, Illinois and formerly of LaPorte, Indiana, died at 4:00 a.m. on Thursday. November 18, 2004 at St. James Hospital in Chicago Heights.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 21, at the Grace Baptist Church in LaPorte, with Rev. John Vincent and Wallace Fox officiating. Burial will be in Posey Chapel Cemetery where full militaty rites will be perforned by the LaPorte Honor Guard.
Richard was born April 8, 1922, in South Bend, Indiana to Walter and Ruth (Robertson) Paul. On April 7, 1946, he married Jane E. Albertson, who survives.
Also surviving are sons, Richard B. (Sandy) Paul of Belton, MO, Jeffery D. (Debi) Paul of Hammond, IN, Craig D. (Nancy) Paul of South Holland, IL and Mark D. (Teresa) Paul of Henderson, NV; daughter Cheryl J. (Wallace) Fox of Ekalake, MT; 16 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Dorthea Koehn.
Richard had worked at Plimpton Press and the Whirlpool Corporation in LaPorte. He was a US Army Veteran of WW II serving as a staff sergeant with the 83rd Artillery Division Medical Detachment. He was a former POW, receiving a Purple Heart and 4 bronze stars. He was also a part of the landing at Normandy. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or to Grace Baptist Church.
