Richard Simon, 86, passed away on Tuesday, June 11, 2019 at Miller's Merry Manor.
Richard was born on July 15, 1932 in Chicago, IL, to Martin and Gizella (Kesce) Simon.
On September 30, 1953 in Michigan City, he married his high school sweetheart, Karen Sadenwater, who preceded him in death, after 64 wonderful years of marriage. Also preceding him in death were his parents and recently passed eldest son, Robert Simon. Surviving are his beloved children, Roger (Sherry) Simon of Chandler, AZ, Wendy (Wayne) Vance of Rolling Prairie, and John (Lorie) Simon of Goshen; daughter-in-law, Dawn Simon; 8 grandchildren, Jennifer (Jon) Tilden of Navato, CA, Bryce Simon of Chicago, IL, Cory and Jordan Simon of Chandler, AZ, Tyler (Tracey) Vance of Rolling Prairie, and Dakota, Luke and Sydney Simon of Goshen; and 3 great-grandchildren, Owen and Nora Vance and Alexander Tilden. Richard always had an open door to many friends and neighbors, who will miss his lively conversation.
Richard was a master carpenter for 56 years, taking pride in quality craftsmanship and loyalty to his customers. He was a member of the Carpenter's Union #1485, VFW, and American Legion. Richard was a veteran of the Korean War. He enjoyed working with his hands, especially farming and gardening. Richard also enjoyed traveling, taking his family and dogs to visit 49 US states.
Cremation has taken place with Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, La Porte. A private family service will take place at a later date.
