Robert Arthur Bachmann, 86 years old of La Porte, IN, died Sunday, March 1, 2009 at the Golden Living Center Fountainview .
He was born December 14, 1922 in LaPorte, Indiana, Son of the late Albert W. Bachmann and the late Margaret L. Peterson Bachmann.
He was a 1st Lieutenant in the U.S. Army during WWII and the Korean War. Member of Bethany Lutheran Church, LaPorte, IN. American Legion, John Purdue Club, the Varsity "P" Club. Was a graduate of LaPorte High School and Purdue University. He was an all-conference football player at LaPorte High School. He was inducted into the LaPorte High School Slicer Football Hall of Fame.
On October 22, 1949 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Michigan City, IN, he married Ruth Charlotte Nuoffer.
He worked as a Director of Employee Relations for several different companies.
Surviving are his wife, Ruth C. Bachmann of La Porte, IN, Son & Daughter-in-Law, Steve (Kim) Bachmann of Granger, IN, Son, Jay Bachmann of Bartlett, IL, Daughter & Son-in-Law, Jill (Douglas) Bensing of Arlington Heights, IL, 6 Grandchildren, Sister, Ruth Stassel of LaPorte, IN, Brother, William Bachmann of LaPorte, IN.
He was preceded in death by His parents, 1 sister, Lorraine, and 2 brothers, Richard and Albert.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at the Cutler Funeral Home, 11 A.M. Tuesday, March 3, 2009, with Rev. Dennis Meyer officiating. Cremation has taken place.
Interment will take place privately in the Greenwood Cemetery , Michigan City, IN .
