Bob Bishop, 63, of LaPorte, Indiana, passed away at 8:58 EST on Sunday, October 15, 2006 at Mission Hospital in Asheville, NC.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 20, at Salem Chapel United Methodist Church with Rev. Mark Harris officiating. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at Cutler Funeral Home and at the church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be in Salem Cemetery where full military rites will be conducted.
Bob was born June 25, 1943, in Terre Haute, IN to the late John Olin & Margaret (Hosier) Bishop. On June 12, 1971, in LaPorte, he married Mary Lynn Nielsen who survives.
Survivors also include daughter Michelle Bishop (Daniel) Wherley of LaPorte; grandchildren Sara & Kevin Wherley of LaPorte; brother Jerry O. (Nancy) Bishop of LaPorte; his faithful companion Buddy; two nephews; and a niece.
Bob was a sprinkler fitter for the Great Lakes Company in Chicago and he also farmed with Barr Farms in LaPorte.
He was a member of Salem Chapel United Methodist Church where he was a member of the Men's Club, had served as a trustee and had served on the Church Administration Council. He was a former member of Local #669 and a current member of Local #281. He also served on the Salem Cemetery board of directors. He was a US Navy veteran and belonged to American Legion Post #83. He loved his RV and golfing.
