Robert "Bob" George Dure, 84, of La Porte, passed away on Friday, April 19, 2019 at his home.
Robert was born in Baltimore, MD, on November 25, 1934 to George and Caroline (Bishop) Dure.
On July 18, 1970 in Arbutus, MD, he married Rose Marie Baker who survives. Also surviving are his beloved children, Robert (Lisa) Dure of Danville, IN, Regina (Chris) Smelser of Mill Creek, IN, Vanessa Dure of Baltimore, MD, and Suzanne (Rick) Allen of Manchester, MD; 11 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; as well as one niece and nephew.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, William Dure; and sister, Virginia English.
Bob received degrees from the Peabody Conservatory of Music and the University of Maryland. He was currently serving as choir director for the First Christian Church of Valparaiso. He was a professional singer, church choir director, as well a mechanical engineer for over 20 years at E.I. Dupont, Superior Engineering, Riblet Plastic, Smith Victor Corporation, RCA, and Salem Engineering. He finished his career after 22 years as an HVAC Inspector for the City of Michigan City. He taught drafting and also taught voice both privately and at a collegiate level.
He was a member of the American Guild of Musical Artists, Indiana Opera North, La Porte Little Theatre Club, and Indiana Association of Building Officials. He was one of the first male members of the La Porte Amateur Musical Club and was a past president. He was most passionate about opera and performed countless roles in his storied career.
Bob was an avid stamp and coin collector. He loved his family and very much enjoyed spending time with them.
Cremation has taken place with Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, La Porte.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 10 am (CT) on Saturday, April 27, 2019 at La Porte First United Methodist Church with Pastors Bob Vale and Evan Lash officiating.
A time of visitation will be held from 5 - 8 pm (CT) on Friday, April 26, 2019 at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center. Additional visitation will be held from 9 am (CT) until the time of service on Saturday at the church.
