Robert W. Kroening, Sr., 79, of Thornton, Illinois, and formerly of Fish Lake, Indiana, died at 8:45 a.m. on Sunday, April 24, 2005. He died at Ingalls Memorial Hospital, in Harvey, Illinois.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 28, at Cutler Funeral Home, LaPorte, with Rev. Doug Ohime officiating. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 2:00-9:00 p.m. and on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services. Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery, Mill Creek, IN, where full military rites will be conducted.
Robert was born December 11, 1925, in Chicago, IL to Robert G. & Violet (Larson) Kroening. On October 7, 1950, in Chicago, he married Adelle Gort, who died in 1982. On January 28, 1984, he married Doris Hienin, who survives.
Also surviving are daughters Ann Shirley of Kissimmee, FL, Bonnie (Norman) Tracy of Fish Lake, IN, Teresa (Phillip) Tanksley of Fish Lake, IN and Margie (Art) Schweitzer of Thornton, IL; son Robert W. (Kathleen) Kroening, Jr. of Hebron, IL; brother William (Esther) Kroening of New Port Richey, FL; 17 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
His parents, a brother, Clifford and a great-grandson, Norman Tracy III, preceded him in death.
Robert had retired from American Home Foods in 1981 and was the assistant manager of Power House and Refrigeration. He was a US Navy Veteran of WW II. He was also a member of the DAV Post of Elkhart, American Legion Post #400 of Fish Lake and had volunteered at the Lincoln Twp. Fire Department for many years.
