Robert W. Odell, 76 years old of La Porte, IN, died Wednesday, January 14, 2009 at LaPorte Hospital.
He was born February 13, 1932 in LaPorte, Indiana, son of the late Giles & Luda (Korros) Odell.
Robert worked as a Guidance Counselor for Rogers High School in Michigan City, Indiana.
He joined the US Naval Reserve in 1949 and graduated from La Porte High School in 1950. Robert served in the United States Navy from 1951 to 1953.
He received at BS in Industrial Education in 1960 and a MS in Education in 1961 from Purdue University.
He was a past president (1976) of Kiwanis International, a member of the Indiana State Teachers Association, a member of the American Legion Post 83, and a former member of the First United Methodist Church.
Surviving are a daughter, Amy (John) Zetzl; a son, Wesley (Andrea) Odell; two granddaughters, Kelsey M. Zetzl, and Madison J. Zetzl; three brother-in-laws, Charlie (Donna) Sanetra, Dr. Joseph (Suzy) McPike, and Robert (Bonnie) McPike; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife Maryann (McPike) Odell; a sister, Shirley (Odell) Sanetra; a sister-in-law, Joyce McPike; and a brother-in-law, William McPike.
Friends will be received 1-4 P.M. Sunday, January 18, 2009 at Cutler Funeral Home, LaPorte, IN, with a service starting at 4 P.M.
Interment will be Monday, January 19, 2009 at 3 P.M. (EST) at the Greenhill Cemetery, Bedford, IN.
