Robert H. Samford, 82 years old of New Carlisle, IN, went peacefully to be with his bride of 58 years, Sunday, January 3, 2010 in Golden Living Center Fountainview, LaPorte, IN.
He was born April 1, 1927 in Wayne City, IL to the late Robert Harry and Rosa (Garrison) Samford.
He was married on October 25, 1947 in La Porte to Bessie Eva Samford who preceded him in death on January 20, 2005.
He served during WWII and the Korean War in the United States Army. He enjoyed spending time with his family, buying and selling cars. He was an avid N.Y. Yankees and St. Louis Cardinals fan. He loved to fish, travel, stay busy and take walks, sometimes walking 3-4 miles per day. Robert also liked garage sales and animals. He loved Indiana in the summer and Tennesse in the winter.
Surviving are daughter, Rebecca Cady of Bloomington, IN; sons, Robert (Kim) Samford III of La Porte, William (Brenda) Samford of Haskill, TN, Ronald (Dana) Samford of La Porte, and Mark (Brenda) Samford of La Porte; numerous grandchildren; great-grandchildren; brother, Joe Samford of KY; sisters, Pauline Pelkey of Georgetown, IN and Wilma Johnson of Springfield, IL.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Bessie Eva Samford; sister, Faye Konieczny; and brothers, Kenneth and Russel.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. Interment will follow in the Patton Cemetery at a later time with full military rites.
