Robert "Teddy Bear" Henry Schmidt, age 70, of La Porte, passed away on Friday, November 6, 2015 at home.
He was born in La Porte, IN, on May 4, 1945 to Edward Arnold and Evelyn Mae (Young) Schmidt.
On February 22, 1964 in La Porte, Bob married Janet Rae Lantz who survives. Also surviving are his beloved children, Julie Lynn Schmidt of Michigan City and Richard Edward (Lynn) Schmidt of La Porte; eight grandchildren, Caryn Schmidt, Christian Schmidt, Emma Schmidt, Braden Schmidt, Samuel Schmidt, Ada Schmidt, Autumn (Kevin) Mazur, and Peyton (Peter) Cornett; four great-grandchildren, Ava, Micah, Elena, and Peterson; siblings, Raymond (Charlotte) Schmidt of Zephyrhills, FL, Roger (Judith) Schmidt of Michigan City, and Debra Hoops of La Porte.
Bob retired as an operating engineer after over fifty years of membership and service with the Operating Engineers Local #150. He was an active and faithful member of La Porte Missionary Church. Bob was a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather. Bob never knew a stranger and made sure everyone knew that he loved and lived for Jesus Christ.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center on Thursday, November 12, 2015 at 10 am. Pastors Carl and Steve Galloway will officiate.
A time of visitation will be held from 2-4 and 6-8 pm on Wednesday, November 11, 2015 and from 9 AM until the time of service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Pinhook Cemetery.
