Robert G Simon

Robert Simon of LaPorte, Indiana passed on Sunday, May 26, 2019.  Robert was the son of Richard and Karen (Sadenwater) Simon, eldest brother to Roger (Sherry) Simon, Wendy (Wayne) Vance and John (Lorie) Simon, and friend to countless others. Robert’s adventure began 62 short years ago in Gary, Indiana. A family man, he spent 42 wonderful years married to his high school sweetheart, Dawn. He loved his two children, Jennifer (Jonathan) and Bryce Simon. Grandson Alexander was his favorite of all.

Father extraordinaire, Robert taught his children to fish, how to select a quality hammer, the importance of family and acceptance, to love nature, and to always be thankful.

On cool evenings, Robert loved riding his motorcycle on the winding back roads of Southern Michigan and Northern Indiana. When he wasn’t running his construction company or riding his motorcycle, you could find Robert taking advantage of his lifelong love of the outdoors. Without fail, he was at one of his numerous fishing holes, practicing catch and release so he could “do battle with them” again. His only regret was not getting to catch every fish that ever existed.

A rock to many, a friend to all, and as dependable as they come, Robert always seemed to know what to say. His wisdom and guidance will be missed. His lessons will be remembered. And his dad humor will live on in the memories of those closest to him, for lifetimes to come.

Cremation has taken place, and the family welcomes you to join them in celebrating Robert’s life on Sunday, June 2 from 11:00 to 3:00 CT at Cutler Funeral Home in LaPorte, Indiana. Pastor Roger Ash will lead a quick memorial service at 3:00.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Save the Dunes (savedunes.org), a local non-profit supporting natural resources of Northwest Indiana’s Lake Michigan watershed.
