Bob Stroud, 76, of LaPorte, Indiana, died a 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 12, 2006 with his family by his side at LaPorte Hospital.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 15, at Cutler Funeral Home with Rev. Gordon Hamlin officiating. Visitation will be held on Friday from 4:00-8:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of services. Burial will be in Springville Cemetery.
Bob was born May 13, 1930 in Marion County, South Carolina to Mayberry and Essie Mae (Bullard) Stroud. On December 24, 1949, he married Eunice H. Thompkins, who preceded him in death May 21, 1993.
Survivors include daughter Mary Lenore Schaub of LaPorte; sons Jeff Stroud, Mike Stroud and Ralph Stroud, all of LaPorte, Ron Pifer of Grand Rapids, MI and Harvey Stroud of Lancaster, OH; 6 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and sisters Vera Mae Long of Dillon, SC, Eulea Stroud of Nichols, SC and Marjorie Long Hall, Autryville, NC.
His parents, son Timothy Allen Stroud, sister Ella May Driggers and brothers Clarence Stroud and Mayberry Stroud, Jr. preceded him in death.
Following an honorable discharge from the Marine Corps, Bob began a career as an ironworker that spanned 38 years. He retired from Ironworkers Local 396 of Hammond, Indiana. He was a member of Acme Lodge #83 F&AM of Michigan City and the Orak Shrine Temple of Michigan City.
He will be missed by his family and friends.
