La PORTE — Robert “Bob” R. Swank, 83 years old of La Porte, IN, died at 3:20 A.M. Sunday, April 11, 2010 at his home.

He was born on May 11, 1926 in Bourbon, IN, Son of Ray and Gladys York Swank. On July 3, 1949 in Michigan City, he married Mary Louise Gorden. He was a Navy Veteran of WWII. He was a member of New Philadelphian Church, American Legion, and N.R.A.

He was a Pastor. He served along side his wife, Mary Louise as Missionaries in Africa from 1955-57. He was involved in Missionary work in India at the time of his passing. He was the author of the book, Cleansing the Leper, which was translated into Talmi. He received a Bachelor of Philosophy from Manchester College, Master of Religion from Bethany Theological Seminary in Chicago, Aeronautical Engineer Degree from Lewis College, and a Master in Education from Indiana University.

Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Mary Louise of LaPorte, IN; 3 sons, Rodney (Leona) Swank of St. Louis, Missouri, Curt (Kim) Swank of LaPorte, IN, and Dave Swank of Goshen, IN. 8 Grandchildren, Jenn (Henry) Shuffle, Josh Swank, Johannah Swank, Atlanta Swank, Alexandra Swank, Tiffany Kinter, Barry (Keunae) Kinter, and Amber (Matt) Ballard; 1 Great Grandson, Jackson Ballard; 3 sisters, Maxine Tyson of Bremen, IN, Jeri Robison of Denver, Colorado, Carol (Lyle) Hall of Bremen, IN; 2 brothers, Don (Marlene) Swank of Plymouth, IN, and Larry (Sherry) Swank of Syracuse, IN.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Marilyn Metcalf .

Friends will be received from 2-6:30 P.M. c.s.t. Tuesday, April 13 and from 9-10 A.M. c.s.t. Wednesday at the Cutler Funeral Home, LaPorte, IN.

Services will be held at 10 A.M. c.s.t., Wednesday, April 14 at the Cutler Funeral Home with Dr. David Stone officiating.

Interment will follow in the Bremen Cemetery, Bremen, IN, with full military honor’s.
