Roberta S. Fisher, 83, passed away Sunday, June 10, 2018 at her home in Rolling Prairie with her loving family by her side. Roberta was born in Auburn, IN on March 8, 1935 the only child of Robert and Helen (Evers) Berkes.
Roberta married James (Jim) Fisher on December 26, 1955. Besides her husband, Jim, she is survived by her beloved children, Martha Collier and husband Wells Lindsay of Windsor, CT, Rob Fisher and wife Deb of LaPorte, and Jennifer Fisher and husband Jim Burr of Michigan City. Roberta and Jim have four grandchildren, A.J. Collier and wife Courtney Bloomfield, CT, Elizabeth Schmitt and husband Brad of South Bend, Jim Collier and fiancé Paige Fuller of Chandler, AZ and Brittany Fisher of LaPorte. They have one great-grandson, Michael Collier of Bloomfield, CT.
Roberta graduated with a B.S. in Nursing from the University of Michigan in the inaugural class offered by the University. Her professional career spanned many facets of nursing including public health, teaching and family practice. She was a nurse for many years at Maple City Family Practice in LaPorte.
Additionally, Roberta was passionate about her avocations. She was an avid bicyclist riding a number of events such as the Hilly Hundred and the Apple Cider. Roberta was an accomplished, self taught seamstress who sewed for her granddaughters and grand nieces, making heirloom, smocked dresses and baby quilts in addition to sewing her own dresses for special occasions.
Her family was active in 4-H for many years and Roberta was an enthusiastic supporter. She baked apple pies for fund-raising, sewed costumes for the LaPorte County Color Guard and Drill teams. Roberta cherished all opportunities to support her children and grandchildren: county and state Dress Revues, horse and cattle shows, wrestling matches, hockey and tennis games.
Roberta loved Christmas and made it a special occasion for her family; she delighted in having the family gather together for multiple days around the holiday. Christmas was replete with a banquet of each person’s favorite cookie, overflowing stockings and each year a larger than last year Christmas tree to scrape the cathedral ceiling.
A Celebration of her Life will be held at 11:00 am (CDT) on Friday June 15, 2018 at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center with Pastor Pam Pask officiating. Internment at Oak Grove Cemetery will follow the service.
