Robert "Bob" Fay Shumaker

Robert "Bob" Fay Shumaker, 84, of La Porte, passed away on Saturday, March 17, 2018 at Miller Health and Rehab.

Robert was born on January 16, 1934 in Somerset, PA, to Harvey A. and Sarah Elizabeth (Menhorn) Shumaker.

On January 15, 1956 in Somerset, PA, he married Barbara Ann Hay who survives.  Also surviving are his beloved children, Rod (Jane) Shumaker of La Porte and Rhonda (Gary) Day of South Bend; 4 grandchildren, Sarah (John) Naegele, Dan (Erica Irvin) Shumaker, Emily Day and Nickolas Day; 6 great-grandchildren, Brody, Brayden, Claire, Blake, Addison, and Olin; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; 3 sisters; and 4 brothers.

Bob was a US Army Calvary veteran.  He had a 40 year career with the Indiana Toll Road.  He started with the initial construction and retired as a maintenance supervisor.  He was a lifetime member of the VFW and a member of the Coffee Club at McDonalds.  Bob attended La Porte Missionary Church where he was an usher and greeter.  He was meticulous about his vehicles and his yard.  He enjoyed watching NASCAR.  His favorite time of year was winter so he could be out plowing snow.  Most of all, Bob loved spending time with his family.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 am (CST) on Thursday, March 22, 2018 at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center with Pastor Carl Galloway officiating.  Burial will follow at Patton Cemetery with Full Military Honors.

A time of visitation will be held from 4 - 8 pm (CST) on Wednesday, March 21, 2018 and from 10 am (CST) until the time of the service on Thursday at the funeral home.
