Ronald “Ron” S. Cmiel was born in Chicago, Illinois on June 17, 1934, to the late Stanley and Frances (Pokuta) Cmiel.
Ronald began working at an early age with his father from whom he learned the family dairy business in Chicago. He was very active in The Boy Scouts of America, and attended DePaul College Prep and DePaul University. In 1955, Ron joined the United States Army where he proudly worked in the Army Medical Services stationed in Japan.
After returning from the service, Ron met the love of his life Dalimira “Dali”, and they were wed in 1959. He lived in Harbert, MI and La Porte, IN with his loving wife and two children. Together, Ron and Dali owned and operated Camile Inc., distributing ice cream and frozen foods as a family business. Later, they opened an antique shop named Barton Street in New Buffalo, MI and also became certified personal property appraisers. They conducted estate and antique sales for many years.
Ron enjoyed being surrounded by family and friends. He especially loved Lake Michigan and rarely passed up an opportunity to take his family boating and fishing. He was also an avid Chicago Blackhawk and White Sox fan. Ron was a long-time, dedicated member of Bethany Lutheran Church in La Porte, The Rotary club of La Porte and the ELKS Lodge in La Porte.
Ron departed this life at 89 years old on Wednesday, July 19, 2023, in Carmel, IN. He was preceded by his parents and his two brothers, Robert and Dennis Cmiel. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 64 years, Dali of Carmel; daughter, Denise Cmiel of Chicago, IL; son, Daniel (Ann) Cmiel of Zionsville; three loving grandchildren, Matthew and Amy Cmiel, and Jessica Nork; a host of relatives, cousins, and so many beloved friends.
