Rose R. Showley, 97, of La Porte, passed away on Friday, March 15, 2019 at Golden Living Center.
Rose was born on December 15, 1921 in Michigan City, IN, to Nehman and Mary (Daher) Nowfel.
On November 20, 1948, she married James Harris, Jr. who preceded her in death. On May 6, 1961, she married Sanford Showley who also preceded her in death on October 1, 1985.
Surviving are her beloved daughters, Renée (Don) Organ of La Porte and Debra (Jay) Williams of La Porte; granddaughters, Stephanie (Matt) Graham of La Porte and Ashley (Dr. Dan) Roberts of New York, NY; 2 great-grandchildren, Chaise Magnuson and Morgan Rose Graham.
She was preceded by her parents; four sisters, Martha Shikany, Julia Kalil, Josephine Herrick, and Katherine Bolka; and three brothers, Joseph, George, and Michael Nowfel.
Rose graduated from Elston High School in Michigan City in 1939. She worked for the La Porte City Offices as a bookkeeper until retirement in 1975. She has previously worked for the Whirlpool Corporation in the accounting department. She was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church, and former member of Psi Iota Xi Sorority and St. Peter Church Bible Study. Rose was an accomplished seamstress. She loved the beach and travels with her family. She also enjoyed swimming, crocheting, crafting, music, and puzzles. Rose was always the heart of her family and spending time with them was the joy of her life.
The family would like to thank the staff of Golden Living Center and AseraCare Hospice for the loving care they gave to Rose and her family.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am (CT) on Thursday, March 21, 2019 at St. Peter Catholic Church with Rose's nephew, Father Gordon Kalil officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Lake Cemetery.
A time of visitation will be held from 4 - 7 pm (CT) on Wednesday, March 20, 2019 at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center.
In lieu of flowers, the family would love memorial donations to be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Way, Memphis, TN 38105 or Alzheimer's Association, 383 US Route 1, Scarborough, ME 04076.
