Rudolf "Rudy" Anton John Legner, 92, of La Porte, passed away onThursday, July 27, 2017 at his home.
Rudy was born on June 16, 1925 in Cobb, WI, to Vaclav and Anna (Wolenec) Legner.
On September 4, 1949 in La Porte, he married Patricia "Pat" Ryan who survives. Also surviving are his beloved children, Garry Legner of La Porte, Doreen Legner of La Porte, Carol (James) Legner-Hagenow of Wayland, MI; daughter-in-law, Toni Legner of La Porte; 9 grandchildren, Stephanie Legner, Vanessa (Jacob) Nichols, Monica Legner, Ivy Legner, Ryan (Chelsea) Legner, Jessica (Chris) Harding, Cy Konieczny, Nicholas Hagenow, and Alexis Hagenow; 6 great-grandchildren, Zenobia Weigel, Kain Kokkeler, Elena, Henrik, and Leo Nichols, and Tristin Johnson; brother, Daniel (Mary) Legner; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded by his parents; son, David Legner; grandson, Nathan Konieczny; and 2 sisters, Bessie Mirka and Martha McGaffey.
Rudy was a regional manager at Whirlpool Corporation for 31 years before he retired in 1988.
Rudy was an United States Army Veteran serving in WWII and the Korean War. He participated in an "Honor Flight". Rudy enjoyed gardening, woodworking, and bicycling. He played tennis until he was 89 years old and swam a mile everyday at the YMCA. He was a member of the La Porte Lions Club, American Legion, First United Methodist Church where he was a 66 year member of the Chancel Choir and later a member of Gloria Bell Choir and Winds of Worship, a former member of La Porte Jaycees, Meals on Wheels, La Porte City Band, the Epworth Forrest Choir School and the Dean Schmidt Orchestra.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 AM (CST) on Thursday, August 3, 2017 at First United Methodist Church with Pastor Bob Vale officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Lake Cemetery with full military honors.
A time of visitation will be held from 4 - 8 PM (CST) on Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center and from 10 AM until the time of the service on Thursday at the church.
