Ruth J. Jones, 94, of La Porte, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 7, 2017 at Hamilton Communities in New Carlisle. Through her 94 years, she gathered a multitude of dear friends and family members. Her quick smile and abundantly giving heart will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Ruth was born in Dayton, IN, on February 10, 1923 to Albert and Albertha (Golden) Morrison. The oldest of four children, she became “caregiver” to her younger siblings after losing her father at age 12. This caring and dedication extended throughout her life to everyone she met and every endeavor she took on.
On March 7, 1957 in West Lafayette, IN, Ruth married Landis E. Jones who preceded her in death in 1972. She was also preceded by her parents; brothers, John and David Morrison; and sister, Patricia (Dean C.) Ribordy.
Surviving are her sister-in-law, Diane Morrison of West Lafayette; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Ruth worked as a bookkeeper at Mulhaupt's Incorporated in Lafayette for 18 years, at English TV in Logansport for 18 years; and 9 years with Pioneer School Corporation. She was a member of Door Village United Methodist Church and her faith was evident in every aspect of her life.
Being outdoors, in the company of friends, or watching any Purdue game were the places she loved to be. Ruth made every Christmas special for her family who cherish memories of her farm home packed with people, wonderful food, filled stockings and piles of gifts.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 12 Noon (CST) on Wednesday, December 13, 2017 at Door Village United Methodist Church with Pastor Robert Denney officiating.
A time of visitation will be held from 10 am - 12 pm (CST) on Wednesday at the church. Cremation will follow the service with interment at Royal Center Cemetery in Royal Center, IN, at 11:00 am (EST) on December 16th, 2017.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Door Village United Methodist Church, 3502 W. Joliet Road, La Porte, IN 46350.
