Ruth Nicklas, 87, of New Carlisle, Indiana and formerly of LaPorte, died at 8:55 a.m. on Wednesday, December 21, 2005 at Hamilton Grove Communities.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, December 23, at Cutler Funeral Home with Rev. Doug Hadley officiating. Visitation will be on Friday from noon until the time of the service. Burial will be in Pine Lake Cemetery.
Ruth was born December 18, 1918, in Ossian, Indiana to Harry & Fra (Steine) Summers. On May 27, 1939, in LaPorte, she married Martin F. Nicklas, who preceded her in death September 4, 2001.
Survivors include daughter Nancy K (Jim) Day of LaPorte; son John M. (Kathy) Nicklas of LaPorte; grandchildren Karen & Gary Day and Lisa & Kathryn Nicklas; 5 great-grandchildren; and brother Wendell Summers of Chico, CA.
A sister, Helen Greer and brothers Maurice & Robert Summers preceded her in death.
Ruth was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She had sung in the choir at St. Paul United Church of Christ, where she was a former member. She was a 1937 LaPorte High School graduate and had sung in many school plays.
