Samuel Vazquez, 85, of La Porte, passed away on Sunday, January 7, 2018 at Settlers Place.
Samuel was born in East Chicago, IN, on August 4, 1932 to Alejo and Vicenta (Ramirez) Vazquez.
On June 24, 1950 he married Librada Vazquez who preceded him in death on January 29, 2016. Surviving are his beloved children, Judy (Howard) Hughes, Janet (Glenn) Oman; 4 grandchildren, Janel Hughes Jones, H. Christopher (Carissa) Hughes, G. Bradford Oman, and Kaelyn Librada Oman; one great-grandson, Cameron Jones; brothers, Gonzalo Vazquez, Alex Vazquez; and sister, Lucila Cantu.
He was preceded in death by parents, wife, and brother, Arnoldo Barrera.
Samuel was a US Army Veteran who served in the Korean War. He worked as a Steel Worker at Inland Steel in East Chicago and was a Spanish Grammar Teacher in Mexico. He was a member of the Trio, "Los Burritos" and was an accomplished musician. He was a stereo buff, loved to play the guitar, and loved music in general.
Cremation has taken place with Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, La Porte. and a Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date.
