Sgt. David M. Heath

June 8, 1974 — August 16, 2004

Sgt. David M. Heath, 30, of Fort Riley, Kansas, and formerly of LaPorte, Indiana, died in the line of duty, Monday, August 16, 2004, in Sadr City, Iraq.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 28, 2004, at the Cutler Funeral Home, with Dr. Howard Abbott officiating. Visitation will be from 3:00-8:00 p.m. on Friday. Burial will be in Patton Cemetery, where full military honors will be conducted.

David was born June 8, 1974, in Huntsville, Alabama to Lola (Moss) Modjeska and John David Heath. On July 15, 1995, at the LaPorte First Baptist Church, he married Donna Hayes, who survives.

Also surviving are a son, Derek Heath, Fort Riley; a step-daughter, Angela Hayes-Riffel, Fort Riley; his mother and step-father, Lola & Ed Modjeska, LaPorte; his father and step-mother, John David and Kim Heath, Ruskin, FL; step-sisters Brandy Modjeska, New Carlisle, IN and Shelly Richardson, Hudson Lake, IN; paternal grandmother, Louise Heath, Ruskin, FL; in-laws, Larry & Mary Hayes, LaPorte; and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Merrill & Veronica Moss and Robert Heath.

David was a sergeant in the U.S. Army, serving as an infantry soldier with Fort Riley?s Company B, 1st Battalion, 41st Infantry, 3rd Brigade, 1st Armored Division. He was an avid NASCAR Fan and loved sports.
