Sharon "Dianne" Cornett

January 15, 1936 — July 18, 2024

Sharon "Dianne" Fuller Cornett, age 88, passed away at home on July 18, 2024. She was born January 15, 1936 in Phenix City, Alabama, also at home.

Dianne had a natural gift of singing and by age 13, had her own radio show which showcased her voice and her darling personality. She would later attend Wesleyan College in Macon, GA to learn to hone and strengthen her vocal skills. Her voice and charm would do her great favors. She graced the stage at the Springer Opera House in Columbus, GA in roles in multiple plays, almost all being musicals.

Later, she would win Miss Columbus in the Miss America pageant and go on to win the talent portion of the Miss Georgia contest. One of the cutest stories of Dianne was that when they brought her on stage for her Miss Columbus crown, the emcee asked "Well, Miss Fuller, what are your plans now?". And she said, in her sugaryish Georgia drawl "I'm go'ne marry John Cornett just as fast as I can!"

Dianne was a social person who would rather have a chat than $100. She was kind, gregarious, had a warm, inviting smile and did everything she could to make one 100% comfortable. She was filled to the brim with sweet Georgia peach. And that peach crossed state lines when her husband John, who preceded her in death by 10 years, was promoted to new business opportunities. When Dianne arrived in a new neighborhood, it wouldn't be long before she was making sweet tea and cobbler for the neighbors.

Dianne was a devout Christian. Her faith was tremendously special to her. She was highly involved in church activities, of which she always assigned the most to herself. Wherever she landed, she usually had a Bible study going on in her home. In fact, the Bible study she started in her home in around 1982 in Valparaiso is still going!

She is survived by her two children, Virginia "Ginny" and John (Mandi) Cornett; three grandchildren, Peterson "Peter", Thomas "Tom" and Margaret "Maggie" Cornett; and three great-grandchildren, Peterson"PJ", Isaac, and Jude Cornett; two brothers, William (Zella) Fuller and Michael (Brenda) Fuller; cousin, Sue Vining; and niece, Jennifer (McVay).

Cremation has taken place with Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, La Porte.
