Shirley was the daughter of the late Raymond Henry Manthie and Gladys M. Miller.
She was married on August 28, 1948 in Michigan City, IN to Edward L. Hartke who preceded her in death on October 11, 2003.
Shirley was involved in many things including, Girl Scout and Cub Scout Leader, JayCees in Michigan City, IN., She served as a Lt. in the Civil Air Patrol and a LaPorte County Travel Log Volunteer. She was secretary of the Holiday Rambler Travel Trailer Club. She was a leader of the AWANA Club. She was Vice President of the Home Extension Club, she served as secretary of the Galena Home Extension Club and President of the LaPorte Home Extension Club. She was a volunteer at the Baptist Children's Home in Valparaiso, IN., She was a member of Evergreen Baptist Church were she served as recording secretary, Sunday school teacher, Kitchen Committee, Mission Committee, Deaconess, past president of the choir guild, past president of the ladies guild, music guild, choir member and leader of the Evergreen Senior Group. She and her husband drove the church bus. She won many ribbons at the LaPorte County Fair, she loved gardening and cross stitching. You could always find her in the church kitchen.
