Sid Thompson, 88 years old of New Buffalo, MI, died Wednesday, March 25, 2009 at St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Michigan City, IN.
He was born on July 2, 1920 in Manito, Illinois to the late Sidney R. Thompson and Etta Sloter.
Sid was a 20 year veteran retiring as a Master Sergeant from the United States Air Force in 1963. He served in Iceland, England, France, Belgium, Germany, Japan and Okinawa.
He married Jane M. (Schwenk) Thompson who he met in Chicago in September of 1970. After retirement from the American National Bank in Chicago they moved to Liberty, Kentucky for six years. When health began to fail the couple returned to Jane's home area of LaPorte and settled in New Buffalo, MI. Sid then worked for Jaymar-Ruby for six years and retired. He was an avid reader, NASCAR fan and loved his pet cat Simba. He was a life member of the Pvt. George Harles VFW Post 198 of Chicago and also a member of the National Rifle Association of America.
He is survived by his wife; Jane Thompson; sister-in-laws, Mary Pearce (Bill), Doris Schwenk; brother-in-laws; John, Mark, Paul and Dale Schwenk all of LaPorte; several nieces, Charlene Allison, Alexandra, Halley, Anya, Sarah and one nephew, Stephen McKowen.
The service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday at the Cutler Funeral Home in LaPorte, IN with Rev. Floyd L. Wilcox, Jr. officiating. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 10 A.M. until the time of service at the Funeral Home. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, New Buffalo, Michigan following the service with full military service conducted by the VFW Post 9423 of Rolling Prairie, IN.
