Suzanne Hines

Suzanne C. Hines, 78 of La Porte died peacefully at home on Sunday, December 7, 2009 of natural causes. She was born on November 15, 1931 in Rensselaer, Indiana to Ethel Opal and Harold William Campbell. She graduated from Rensselaer High School in 1950. After living and working in Chicago for a short period of time she settled in La Porte, married, and raised a family.

For 25 years she worked at Fountainview Terrace Nursing Home, first as an Activities Assistant, then as an Activities Director. She had a remarkable talent for connecting to and caring for others, and those who she cared for were grateful for her compassion. After retirement, she enjoyed volunteering at Brentwood Assisted Living for 8 years.

Sue took great pleasure in visiting with friends and chatting on the telephone. She enjoyed traveling and visiting her children, grandchildren, and family. She was fond of reading, crossword puzzles, word challenges, and card games.

She is survived by one son Dennis (Carol) Riverside CA., daughter, Peggy (Frank Fischer) Blanchardville, WI, brother William (Jean) Campbell, Rensselaer, IN., grandchildren Jack, Peter, Emma, and Madeline, nieces, one nephew, and many loving friends. She was a devoted mother and she adored her grandchildren. She was well known in her community as a friendly, thoughtful, and generous person.

Sue is preceded in death by her parents, sister; Marilyn Moore, sons Jon who died in infancy and Jeffery who died in 1990.

Friends and family are invited to Sue's home, 103 Parkview Drive, LaPorte, IN 46350 on Saturday, December 19th from 1-5 p.m. for a "Celebration of Life" gathering.

Contributions may be given in Sue's name to the La Porte Salvation Army Food bank or to the American Lung Association.
