Sven Louis Swanson, 94, Woodland Terrace, Bridgman, died at 7:10 p.m. E.D.T. Monday (Oct. 20, 2003) of natural causes at his home.
A private family service will be held at the Cutler Funeral Home, 2900 Monroe St., LaPorte, with the Rev. Erik Gustafson officiating. Burial will be in Heckman Cemetery, LaPorte. There will be no visitation.
Mr. Swanson was born May 10, 1909, in Chicago, to Bengt August and Ida (Johannson) Swanson. On June 21, 1934, in Michigan City, he married Maybelle Louise Murphy, who died Oct. 16, 1985.
Survivors include four daughters, Barbara (Dr. Adolfo) Felix, Tucson, Ariz., Carol Brychta, Lakeside, Mich., Nancy (David) Jones, LaPorte, and Mary (Roger) van Schoyck, LaPorte; three sons, Dale (Patricia) Swanson, Tucson, David (Beatrice) Swanson, and Glenn (Karen) Swanson, all of LaPorte; 17 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Jane Carpenter and Harriet Sweitzer, both of LaPorte.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Paul Swanson; and one sister, Helen Koenig.
Mr. Swanson retired from the Budd Co. in Gary, where he worked as a tool and die maker.
He was a member of the Michigan City Moose Lodge, the U.A.W. and was an avid gardener.
