Terry Lynn Summar

Terry Lynn Summar, 63, of La Porte, passed away on Wednesday, June 20, 2018, at VNA Hospice in Valparaiso.

Terry was born in Ripley, TN, on April 26, 1955 to Algue L. and Bessie L. (Carroll) Summar.

On September 11, 1976 in Merrillville, IN, he married Susan Newman who survives. Also surviving are his beloved children, Ashley Summar of Noblesville, Mathew (Allie) Summar of La Porte; siblings, Betty Ford of Hobart, Algue (Roberta) Summar, Jr. of Gary, Michael Summar of Columbia, TN, Donald (Lola) Summar of Crown Point, Van and Danny Summar of Gary; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Terry worked at the Indiana Harbor Belt Railroad for 10 years and at Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District for 34 years. He was a member of the United Transportation Union. Terry loved building things, especially houses, and enjoyed gardening. He was known to help anyone who needed a helping hand.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10 am (CT) on Tuesday, June 26, 2018 at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center with Pastor Dennis Meyer officiating. Cremation will take place with Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center after the service.

A time of visitation will be held from 4 - 8 pm (CT) on Monday, June 25, 2018 and from 9 am (CT) until the time of the service at the funeral home.
