Thomas C. McAlpine, 91, of LaPorte, Indiana, died at 6:10 p.m. on Thursday, February 3, 2005 at Countryside Place Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
A funeral service will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, February 7, with Rev. Dennis Meyer officiating. Visitation will be held on Monday from 4:00 p.m. until the time of services. A Masonic Service will be held at 6:30 p.m. A private family burial will be held at Carmel Cemetery at a later date.
Thomas was born February 21, 1913 in Boone, Iowa to James & Mary (Caldwell) McAlpine. On September 27, 1936, in Ogden, Iowa, he married Frances Peterson, who preceded him in death on July 24, 1995.
Survivors include daughters Mary Stilts of Steger, IL, and Pamela McAlpine of LaPorte; sons Thomas W. ?Scott? McAlpine of LaPorte and David C. McAlpine of New Carlisle, IN; 6 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; brother Wesley Harden of Oregon; and sisters Peggy Jensen of Boone, IA and Betty Canfield of San Luis Obispo, CA.
A grandson, Kevin McAlpine, a brother, Bill McAlpine and a sister, Edna Kemp, preceded him in death.
Thomas was a retired businessman involved in the trucking business. He was a LaPorte 50+ year Master Mason, a South Bend 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason and a member of the York Rite. He belonged to the Michigan City Shriners, People to People International, and Delta Nu Alpha. He was a Jaycee and a past member of the Rotary Club. He was a member of the LaPorte Bethany Lutheran Church. He was also a published poet.
