Vernon Elmer Laue, age 82, of La Porte, passed away on Friday, May 30, 2014 at IU Health La Porte Hospital.
Vernon (aka Jim) was born in Randolph, WI, on December 1, 1931 to Elmer Carl William and Minnie (Bahr) Laue. On September 3, 1955 in Beaver Dam, WI, he married Miriam (aka Sue) Gail Larson who survives. Also surviving are his beloved children, Steve (Pam) Laue of La Porte, Stuart (Sandra) Laue of Henderson, NV, Karen (Jeff) Drudi of Traverse City, MI; six grandchildren, Eric Laue of Milwaukee, WI, Kristin Laue of McCarthy, Alaska, Amanda Laue of La Porte, Ian Laue of La Porte, Sean (Mei) Laue of Surprise, AZ, and Alexa Drudi of Traverse City, MI; siblings, Kenneth (Carol) Laue of Beaver Dam, WI, and Gordon (Gwen) Laue of Beaver Dam, WI; sister-in-law, Minnie Laue of Beaver Dam, WI and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings, Mervin Laue and Bernice Schultz and an infant son James Robert Laue.
Vernon worked as an administrator for the Indiana Department of Corrections. He was a member of Rolling Prairie United Methodist Church and his local Parkinson’s support group. He was a US Air Force Veteran having served in the Korean War and was stationed in England for three years. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin and worked as a banker for several years in Rolling Prairie. He and his family were part owners of a golf course in New Carlisle between his years as a banker and a correction officer. Vernon was a lifelong Packers, Cubs, and recent Brewers fan. He enjoyed fishing at his cabin in Eagle River WI, painting, drawing, and most of all being with friends and family. His greatest passion was his family whom he loved more than anything.
A cremation committal has taken place with Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, LaPorte, IN.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, June 14, 2014 at Rolling Prairie United Methodist Church with Rev. Debbie Beason and Rev. Dorothy Jones officiating. A time of visitation with the family will take place from 10 AM on Saturday until the time of the service at the church.
