Vincent R. Kanney, 86 years old of LaPorte, IN, passed away on Thursday, January 5, 2012 at Hamilton Grove in New Carlisle, IN.
He was born on July 31, 1925 in LaPorte, IN, son of the late Vincent and Helen (Wade) Kanney.
Vincent was married on June 26, 1948 to Katherine P. (Belzowski) Kanney who survives. Also surviving are his children: Linda (Charles) Baggarly of Chicago, IL, Robert (Carla) Kanney, Kathleen (Tom) Heath, Kevin (Kay) Kanney, Mary (Rodger) Padgett, Richard Kanney all of LaPorte and Rosemary (Keith) Owens of East Aurora, NY; grandchildren: Megan, Chris, Matt, Katie, Ashley, Adam, Zach & Jeff; great grandchildren: Dominick, Matty, Ruby, Sylas, Norah, Levi " Lil Vinny", Austin & Abby; one brother: Wade Kanney of LaPorte.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister: Helen Funk and brother: Jack Kanney.
Vincent was a LaPorte High School graduate, a graduate of the Indiana School of Mortuary Science in 1943 and he also received his Associates from Purdue University. He retired from Howmet of LaPorte as a supervisor.
He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church where he served as a Eucharistic Minister, Usher and Commentator, St. Michael's Council #1542, Over 40's Club and a Fourth Degree member of the Father Sorin Assembly of the Knights of Columbus for 66 years. He was a past Grand Knight with the LaPorte Council and the past Color Corps Commander and Faithful Navigator of the 4th Degree.
There will be a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM, Monday, January 9, 2012 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. Dennis Teles officiating. Interment will follow in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
There will be a time of visitation from 3-7 PM with a Prayer Service at 3PM officiated by Deacon Robert Bucheit on Sunday, January 8, 2012 at Cutler Funeral Home & Cremation Service.
In Lieu of flowers Memorial Contributions may be made to the Gibault School for Boys, 6401 U.S. 41 Terre Haute, IN 47802-4771, St. Joseph Catholic Church or the Donor's Choice.
