Virgil Shuter

Virgil Shuter, 85, of LaPorte, Indiana, died at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 27, 2005 at his home.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, October 31, at Cutler Funeral Home with Rev. John Vincent and Rev. Robert Courtney officiating. Visitation will be on Sunday from 3:00-7:00 p.m. Burial will be in the Swan Lake Memorial Gardens.

Virgil was born May 7, 1920, in Hogan Township, Dearborn County, Mount Sinai, Aurora, Indiana on Shuter Road, to the late Harry & Edna (Kimball) Shuter. On September 3, 1944, in Walkerton, IN, he married Glenna Irene Sherer, who survives.

He is also survived by daughter Kay (Rev. Robert) Courtney of Atwood, IN; sons Kevin (Teresa) of Rolling Prairie, IN and Kip (Sandi) of Warsaw, IN; grandchildren 1st Lt. Matthew (Swati) Shuter of USAF Colorado Springs, CO, Ashley Shuter of Rolling Prairie, Airman Philip Courtney of Fort Meade, MD USAF, Joshua, Carrie, Abby, Megan and Paul Courtney of Atwood, IN and Andrew & Stephanie Shuter of Warsaw, IN; sister Harriette Crock of Mesa, AZ; and brothers Lloyd (Gladys) Shuter of Lawrenceburg, IN and William Shuter of Aurora, IN.

A daughter, Bonnie Shuter, 3 sisters, Myrtle Shuter, Sylvia Dennerline & Louise Roof and his stepmother preceded him in death.

Virgil had worked at KOP during WWII, Pal Tricycle Plant and American Rubber. He had retired in 1990 from Bortz Farm Store, starting in 1955 and working as mill manager. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church serving as head usher, deacon, clothes giveaway coordinator, choir member and trustee. He was also a member or the LaPorte Camera & Travel Club.

Memorials may be made to the Grace Baptist Church Building Fund.
